Porphyry Gulch Road(Also Known As country road 822) is located just below the summit of Red Mountain Pass on highway 550 on the Silverton side. The road is moderate in difficulty with a narrow no passing stretch near the top of the trail. The Trail offers scenic views towards the east of Big Horn Gulch and County Road 825. The road ends about 2000 feet before Bullion King Lake. The hike to the lake from the end of the trail is easy with very little elevation gain. The view of Bullion King Lake is spectacular, the color being a clear to emerald green that is fed from the waterfall that plunges high from the cliffs above the lake. The trail can also be accessed from the Black Bear Pass road; there is a short connecting trail that is moderately more difficult in a few places than the main trail.
